CEMECO - Healthcare Facilities
Located in San Cristobal, near the capital of Dominican Republic, the "Centro Medico Constitución" (CEMECO) experienced a growth in demand in recent years. To meet this demand, the facility acquired the land around it, looking to grow physically from 2,400 to 7,500 square meters in total area.
In collaboration with Arch. Charlie Lara, I created a proposal for the construction of two additional buildings, each dedicated for a specific use: Surgical in the old building, with Consultation and Hospitalization in the two new buildings.
This project is a perfect example of my interest in a holistic approach to architectural design, and demonstrates the value that an extensive and thorough analysis phase brings to the final building.

Mental Health Rehabilitation Center
This 60-bed medical center was designed as part of an undergraduate research project. The research looked at the therapeutic effects of architectural shapes and textures on patients with mental health disabilities.
Based on the architectural concept of Earth as protector mother, the building’s circular form creates an oasis of tranquility within. The central open-air courtyard takes advantage of year-round good weather, and establishes a safe space for residents to socialize.

Concrete 3D Elements - Construction System Design
Design of an industrialized system of construction of three-dimensional elements of reinforced concrete.
The main idea is to reduce construction time on site, limiting the construction process to the weather-controlled workshop and transporting the elements (as finished as possible) to be assemble on site.
The system is based on two concrete frames and hollow-core slabs. Is been modulated based on a block of 3.00 x 3.00 x 9.00 meters (size limit to be transported in Spain), allowing the length to be variable according to the project requirements.

Concrete 3D Elements - Architectural Design (Elementary School)
Having designed the construction system to be used in regular conditions, it is proposed to use it in a project in Japan, to test it on two variables: extreme weather and earthquakes.
The system had to suffer some alterations, such as: anchorages strengthening, use of a concrete rigid building core (made on site), pitched roofs, underfloor heating, use of ventilated facade (north) and curtain wall (south).

Post-Tensioned Rammed Earth - Construction System Design
Design of an industrialized system of construction of rammed earth.
The main idea is to reduce construction time on site, standardizing the construction process of a traditional technique, and taking advantage of the thermal performance of the earth as a building material.
